Dear Members,
The Society's 6 November Dinner event will feature wines from PENFOLDS & CLARENDON HILLS, two of the best and iconic Australian wineries and a challenge of their top respective cuvees, GRANGE vs ASTRALIS.
Although Clarendon Hills was only established in 1989, its wines have received excellent reviews from both critics and publications, like the Wine Advocate, Wine Spectator and Wine Companion. In issue 108 of his newsletter in August 2003, Robert Parker named Clarendon Hills as one of Australia's and world's greatest wineries.
A mammoth, blockbuster wine with awesome layers of flavor extract, huge, high tannin, and magnificent, concentrated cassis fruit, this full-bodied wine shows beautifully integrated tannin, acidity, and alcohol, but still has a personality more like a barrel sample than a wine that is already five years old. (Robert Parker 97 points! Stephen Tanzer 95 points; Wine Spectator 92 points; Jeremy Oliver 95 points.)

Penfolds, whose history goes all the way back to 1845 is undoubtedly Australia's most famous wine brand whose name is instantly recognizable because of its Grange, regarded as Australia's most iconic wine and best Shiraz. Few would argue that Penfolds has taken Australian wines to the top of the wine world and forged a reputation for quality that is without peer.
  Wine Spectator 97 points!
"A massive wine _ _ which lasts and lasts on the finish."
  Jeremy Oliver 97 points!
"A cracker of a Grange. Succulant, sumptious palate of wonderful concentration, length and persistence, fruity and precisely structured with everything imaginable in perfect place and balance. An essay in controlled balance"
Moomba, our Dinner Venue, complements our theme of an Australian night as the cuisine served is Australian inspired with ingredients mainly imported from Australia. The restaurant is named after an Australian aborigine word meaning "to come together and have fun" which is what we expect those who will be joining us for the dinner to be doing.
So, don't miss out on this epic challenge between 2 of Australian's pride … and the Society proudly
