IWFS Sunday Champagne Brunch
Oumi

Dear members

Interest in champagne, especially grower champagnes has been rising over past years. Increasingly, consumer interest has shifted from the consistency of House champagne to grower champagnes crafted by vignerons that reflect the climate, terroir and winemaker style, just like in burgundy.

One of the advantages of a wine club is its ability to lay down and to drink at optimal times wines purchased on release and kept in pristine conditions. I am pleased to feature, all from the society's cellars, champagnes lovingly laid down by cellarmasters over the past few years.

We start with a pair of blanc de blancs grower champagnes, Pierre Peters Cuvee de Reserve Blanc de Blancs NV and Etienne Calsac l'Echappee Belle Brut NV. We also feature the Ruinart rose with the main course. The unique feature of these wines is that they were all purchased by the society more than 10 years ago and this is a rare opportunity to taste non- vintage champagnes with some bottle age.

We continue with an interesting comparison of vintage house champagne (2002 Pol Roger Vintage Brut RP 95 ) and grower champagne (2002 Gatinois Champagne Grand Cru Brut Millésimé) from the much heralded 2002 vintage.

Finally, i am pleased to feature one of my favourite champagnes, the Pierre Peters Cuvee Speciale 'Les Chetillons' Blanc de Blancs Grand Cru Brut 2000. Rodolphe Peters at a Pierre Peters IWFS dinner in the mid 2000s featured this wine to much acclaim and I am pleased to note that the wine was purchased for the society's cellars. Since the mid 2000's, Pierre Peters wines have rocketed to superstar status with prices of some of the wines rising more than 5 times from the original release price. The grapes used to compose this wine come from three aged parcels located in the beautiful terroir of Les Chétillons at Le Mesnil sur Oger. The minerality of the chalky soil is evident in this 100% Grand Cru Chardonnay.

The venue of the brunch is Oumi, a farm-to-table Japanese restaurant located at the 51st floor of the CapitaSpring building with stunning views of the Marina Bay. Come join us in a unique exploration of champagne and refined Japanese kappo cuisine.
