An Exclusive Valentine’s Day Dinner with Dönnhoff at Imperial Treasure Shanghai

Dear Members,

For Valentine’s Day, we are fortunate to have Cornelius Dönnhoff, who has recently taken over the helm from his father as winemaker of Weingut Hermann Dönnhoff, to share with us the highly revered Rieslings from his estate.

Dönnhoff is a winery in Oberhausen, in the wine-growing region of Nahe, Germany. The Dönnhoff family has been making wine in this region since 1750 and is regarded as one of the greatest Riesling producers in the world.

Robert Parker describes Dönnhoff as a “superstar” in the Nahe region with “extraordinary vineyards” and has rated the Dönnhoff Eiswin 100 points. Cornelius Dönnhoff was named the Winemaker of the Year in 2014 by the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung.

Located in Oberhausen, Dönnhoff spans over 25 hectares of vineyards of mainly volcanic and slate soils with 80% Riesling and 20% Pinot Blanc and Pinot Gris of 15-60 years of age being planted. Dönnhoff philosophy is that it is not only the terroir, but also the long history of the earth itself and the commitment of the people who work it, that makes exceptional wines. Dönnhoff produces structured and precise dry, as well as luscious sweet wines, from several top sites in Nahe including Hermannshöhle, Dellchen, Felsenberg, Leistenberg, Brücke, and Kirschheck, all with their own distinct terroir, personality and centuries-long history.

For this dinner, we will explore the top dry Rieslings of Dönnhoff from their three Grosses Gewächs (GG) or Grand Cru vineyards, including their flagship Hermannshöhle. These will be paired with the excellent Shanghainese dishes from Imperial Treasure Shanghai Cuisine. Imperial Treasure Shanghai Cuisine has won numerous accolades for its fine and authentic cuisine.
