VINTAGE BRUNELLO DINNER
Osteria Art

Dear Members,

My introduction to Tuscan wines, especially Brunellos, began not so coincidentally soon after I began dating Symonne, my then girlfriend and now, luckily for me, my wife. She had a love for Italian wines and a particular fondness for Brunello. And after several visits to Montalcino and multiple tastings with winemakers, I soon realized that I too had developed a penchant for Brunellos. I enjoy and appreciate the vibrancy, elegance and complexity that many of the best Brunellos possess. But what has always piqued my curiosity is how well do Brunellos age? Even in Montalcino, it has been surprisingly difficult to find vintages of Brunello before the 1997 vintage except from a few of the larger producers. I’ve asked many of the smaller producers why they did not keep older vintages and they say that it is simply uneconomical for them to keep library stocks of their wines. So I have been left to luck and fate in searching out older vintages and thankfully have been fortunate in that my experience with older Brunellos has been an overall positive one. I hope that the same holds true for this dinner but either way it will be an experience to remember.

For this special wine dinner, we are digging out of the Society’s cellar six (6) older vintages of Brunello to evaluate over dinner including a pairing of Altesino’s Riserva and single vineyard Montosoli from 1990 as well as the highly sought-after Cerbaiona from the 1988 vintage. Five out of the six Brunellos are from the much heralded 1990 vintage with the sixth Brunello from the underappreciated 1988 vintage. We are also fortunate in that we have a good representation of the various sub-zones within the Montalcino area.

We will be holding this not-to-be-missed dinner at Osteria Art, located on Market Street. Spearheaded by well-known restaurateur Beppe De Vito, Osteria Art is a fine-dining Italian establisment, focusing on traditional dishes and fresh ingredients. Osterial Art has prepared a special menu for us this evening.

Members will have priority over guests during the forty-eight (48) hours after the sending out of the email bulletin. Please book early to avoid disappointment as seats are limited.
