Dear Members,
For the month of October, we are pleased to have Brett Flemings presenting the Tuscan wines of Avignonesi and Piancornello.
Avignonesi is one of the flagship producers of Tuscany. It is named after the Avignonesi family, the founders of the original estate. The winery now owns eight vineyards in the Montepulciano appellation in Tuscany and with their state-of-the-art winemaking facility, produces award-winning wines that express the richness, beauty and complexity of the Montepulciano terrior. Their Vin Santo wine is one of the most famous wines in Italy. Avignonesi also has two vineyards in the Cortona appellation in Tuscany where Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay are grown. Grapes from these vineyards go into the making of highly rated wines including the Desiderio Merlot and Il Marzocco Chardonnay.
Brett will also showcase a wine from a boutique winery, Piancornello, which is distributed by the group. The estate vineyard at Piancornello was bought by the Pieri family in 1950. The fruits were originally sold to other Montalcino producers until they began making their own wine starting with the 1990 vintage. Piancornello takes its name from the hamlet just South of Montalcino where the winery is located. Because of the warm climate and unique, rocky/mineral-rich soils, this is considered one of the finest areas of Brunello. This highly rated wine is still produced by the Pieri family.
The wines will be paired with the Spanish cuisine of Daniel Chavez at Ola Cocina Del Mar. Daniel was the former executive chef of Santi at Marina Bay Sands. His prior experience spans across a number of the best restaurants in the world, namely, Santi Santamaria’s three Michelin star restaurant, Can Fabes near Barcelona, one Michelin star restaurant, La Sucursal in Valencia and Ossiano in Dubai which was rated one of the top 50 tables in the world in 2009 by Conde Naste Traveller Magazine. Daniel’s cuisine is reminiscent of Santi Santamaria’s culinary philosophy with hints of Daniel’s Peruvian heritage and personality.
We are grateful to Certain Cellars and Brett Flemings for making this event possible. Please book early to avoid disappointment
