THE INTERNATIONAL WINE & FOOD SOCIETY OF SINGAPORE
The International Wine
& Food Society (IWFS) of Singapore is the largest and
the most active branch of the IWFS within the Asia Pacific
Zone.
In 2002, we organized 16
wine functions, and we had a cumulative total of 907 members
and guests attending our functions over that 12 month period.
In 2003, there were 15 events
with a cumulative attendance of 939 members and guests.
The year started off well when we held an extraordinary
event where we entertained more than 60 Italian winemakers
and winery representatives when they visited Singapore.
Each winery donated a case of their best wines for the dinner,
and there were so many wines that even with 190 members
and guests in attendance, the dinner had to be divided into
three sections, each being served with their own list of
about 20 wines. It was certainly a memorable night of great
wine, food, fellowship and wine education.
In terms of membership, we
reached another historical high of 192 members at the end
of 2002, and by the end of 2003, this increased to 195.
In 2002 we had 24 new or re-joining members, whilst the
same figure for 2003 was 15.
We have also been very fortunate
in the area of wineries Visitors. Over the year in 2003,
we welcomed and hosted more than 100 winery owners, representatives
or wine-makers, the most we have ever entertained in any
one calendar year. This meant that our members were able
to meet a wide number of wine personalities over the year.
